Child Deaths Mount as Measles Epidemic Hits Bangladesh

The outbreak of measles in Bangladesh recently has resulted in the death of more than 500 people, mostly young children, who have been impacted by this deadly disease along with another 60,000 people since March. There are a variety of reasons for this epidemic; these include the delay in the supply of vaccinations by the government, lack of immunization due to the ongoing pandemic of COVID-19, and dense population. Parents have failed to get their children vaccinated despite repeated attempts to do so, and hospitals have become crowded because of the inability to isolate people infected with the disease.
